Reddit widens its existing ban of crypto advertising

Reddit, which has banned cryptocurrency advertising since 2016, is following the lead of Google and Facebook by widening its own policy to include crypto-related Google cached ads.

Reddit told The Verge: “Ads for cryptocurrencies and ICOs have not been allowed on Reddit since early 2016…Sections II.5 and II.6 of our advertising policy prohibit ‘improbable, or unsubstantiated financial products and services’ and ‘the promotion or advertisement of single securities or other tradeable financial assets.’”

The platform is home to many crypto dicussion groups, with various subreddits no-doubt contributing to crypto’s rise in popularity.

While previously, only ads from Reddit were banned under the policy, now Google ads personalised by a user’s cookies will also be outlawed.
