AirAsia to launch crypto-based rewards system for frequent flyers

AirAsia, the low-cost airline based in Malaysia, has announced it will launch a cryptocurrency-based rewards program for customers.

Speaking to Nikkei Asian Review, AirAsia boss Tony Fernandes confirmed the company’s plans to convert its existing frequent-flyers rewards program into crypto platform BigCoin in order to move further towards a totally cashless system.

Customers will still be able to purchase perks such as in-flight meals and upgrades with fiat currency options, but BigCoin will now add crypto to the list of choices.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Fernandes also believes that AirAsia will launch its own ICO at some point in the future, after the crypto rewards program launch in 3-6 months.
