BitTorrent continues its drive to be even more cryptocurrency-friendly…
The worlds of cryptocurrency and BitTorrent are coming a little closer together again, with the news that the latter is now going to be accepting more of the former.
Earlier this year, BitTorrent hit the headlines when it was acquired by the blockchain company Tron. The price of the deal was said to be around $125m in cash, give or take a few quid. And unsurprisingly, this was said to result in a tighter union between crypto and BitTorrent (along with uTorrent too).
Now, we hear that BitTorrent is set to formally accept the Tron currency as a means of payment for anyone looking to buy the ads-free version of BitTorrent, or the pro version of the service.
And that’s not all. It turns out too that Bitcoin and Binance Coin are also being added to the roster of companies that BitTorrent will accept in exchange for its services.
As per the official announcement, “BitTorrent joins a growing list of online companies whose products and services accept TRX as payment”. Those being the words of Tron founder and BitTorrent CEO Justin Sun.
“With BitTorrent’s over 100 million users, the move helps increase the use of TRX in online marketplaces while giving consumers more options to unlock value from BitTorrent’s premium products”, he added.
The new payment methods are available for use over at bittorrent.com and utorrent.com, and are being accepted now. You can find the formal announcement in full at Tron’s blog, here.
