Crypto-Powered DLive to exclusively host YouTube Star PewDiePie

Felix Kjellberg, otherwise known as YouTube star PewDiePie, has signed a deal to exclusively start streaming on cryptocurrency-powered live streaming platform DLive.

PewDiePie, who has 94 million subscribers on YouTube, will start streaming on DLive from the 14th of April according to this announcement. DLive is a decentralized community created with the Lino blockchain. To support content creators on the platform, Kjellberg is also set to donate up to $50,00 to a total of 100 content creators.

PewDiePie announced the news to his followers on Twitter yesterday:

Business Insider reports that PewDiePie is one of YouTube’s biggest earners, with earnings on the platform of over $15.5 million last year.

With over 3 million monthly active users, and 35,000 active streamers, DLive is available online at and via its Android and iOS apps. DLive is built using Lino, a fully transparent, decentralised blockchain protocol with core innovations for the content industry. Content creators, viewers and other participants in the ecosystem can earn rewards for their participation and contributions to DLive in the form of Lino points, the native cryptocurrency of the Lino blockchain.

The company raised $20 million in February of last year to build its YouTube competitor based on blockchain technology. According to its founder, Wilson Wei, content creators can expect to earn “three-to-five times” what they made on YouTube or Twitch.

Commenting on the announcement, Wilson Wei said: “DLive is a place where instead of competing against each other, it benefits creators to support one another. With no platform cuts, we incentivize everyone to create the highest quality content for viewers. PewDiePie has always been a fierce advocate for the value that creators bring with their hard work, time, and effort, and he believes in DLive’s vision. Our livestreaming platform has the potential to forever change how creators are represented in this industry, and we’re proud to have PewDiePie help us lead this charge.”
