The GBA will serve as an “open environment for inquiry, dialogue and development regarding blockchain technology.
The concept of three former employees of the search giant – Hitters Xu, Daniel Wang, and Andy Tian – who all now run their own blockchain related companies, a new collaborative alliance hopes to bring together former and current Googlers to “share ideas and collaborate in the space”, according to its press release.
The group, named xGoogler Blockchain Alliance (GBA), consists of blockchain project founders, team members, investors and advisors who once worked at Google. Xu, who was formerly part of the Search & Anti-Fraud team at Google but now heads-up Nebulas which – befitting his former employees – describes itself as a “next-generation public blockchain” that provides a method to rank addresses, smart contracts, distributed applications (DApps) and other entities using it, says “Googlers who are prominent influencers in ‘classic internet’ can play important role in blockchain space”.
Andy Tian, founder of GIFTO – a decentralised gifting protocol – added to this that “As Googlers, we can bring our unique experiences to expand blockchain’s influence, to everyone, everywhere.”
GBA hopes to incubate high quality blockchain projects centred on the San Francisco Bay Area, Beijing and Shanghai, with membership open to all ex-Googlers via xgba.io.
