It looks as though the movie based on John McAfee’s life, King Of The Jungle, is still live and kicking…
The controversial life of vocal cryptocurrency advocate John McAfee has already been explored on screen before in the documentary Gringo: The Dangerous Life Of John McAfee (that’s available on Netflix now). But there’s another higher profile screen project in development, that’ll explore his story.
Announced last year, King Of The Jungle is a film that’s set to follow how McAfee went from software engineer and anti-virus company guru, through to his significant brushes with the law, and subsequent move to Belize. As per the reveal of the project last year, the movie is being directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, who have made films such as Focus (starring Will Smith and Margot Robbie) and Crazy Stupid Love (starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling).
Furthermore, it was also revealed that Johnny Depp would be playing McAfee in the movie. No further casting had been announced.
Significantly, though, nothing else had been announced either since news of the project first surfaced back in May 2017. Back at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, that’s when we learned of Depp’s involvement, and also that the film was set to be a dark comedy. But it’s been quiet since then.
However, McAfee has suggested that the project is still a live one, confirming in a Twitter exchange that Depp is still set to play him in the movie of his life.

What we don’t know as of yet is the timescales involved, but the project – in spite of the radio silence – still appears to be ongoing. We’ll confirm more as we get it…
