Russia to use blockchain for 2018 exit poll data

A polling research centre in Russia will use blockchain technology to monitor exit poll results for March’s 2018 presidential elections.

A press release (translation via CoinTelegraph) reveals that the Public Opinion Research Centre (VTSIOM) is teaming up with start-up 2chain to create a database.

Valery Fyodorov, VTSIOM general director, said: “Until now with exit polls we had to practically shut down the website on polling day in order to avoid it being taken down by DDoS attacks and other break in attempts from numerous anonymous hackers.

“Thanks to blockchain we can enhance the level of data protection from cyber-attacks several fold, avoid weak points while transferring information, and guarantee the integrity and immutability of data.”

The project will launch on March 12, ahead of the elections on March 18.
