Russian scientists have been caught ‘mining bitcoin’ on nuclear supercomputer

A group of engineers working at one of Russia’s top-secret nuclear warhead facilities have been arrested for allegedly mining bitcoin using one of the station’s supercomputers.

The alleged culprits have been detailed at the Federal Nuclear Centre in Sarov, with a spokesperson for the centre claiming there had been “an attempt to use the work computing facilities for personal ends, including for so-called mining. Their activities were stopped in time.”

The security department caught the activity when the computer, never meant to be connected to the internet, went online, reports The Independent.

More on this as we get it.
