While no one was looking, social media company Snap started implementing its own ban on crypto-related advertising, ahead of Google and Twitter’s decisions earlier this week.
Cheddar confirmed the report on Monday and clarified that, while advertisements for crypto-token sales have been restricted for a while now, more general ads related to cryptocurrency are still allowed on the platform.
This is a less harsh, but perhaps more forward-thinking approach to the fears surrounding false ads and scams that can victimise vulnerable users. Twitter is thought to be rolling out its ban within the next two weeks.
When Cheddar asked Snap whether the more relaxed policy might change, they declined to comment.
