Starbucks admits it will ‘probably’ use blockchain

The executive chairman of Starbucks has revealed the company is likely to utilise cryptocurrency as part of its payments app.

Howard Shultz told Fox Business: “I think blockchain technology is probably the rails in which an integrated app at Starbucks will be sitting on top of.”

It’s not entirely surprising news, as Starbucks has always been keen to embrace the latest technology for customers, including Apple Pay and – going back even further – the ability to order via app.

Shultz recently spoke about blockchain during an earnings call, saying: “I believe that we are heading into a new age, in which blockchain technology is going to provide a significant level of a digital currency that is going to have a consumer application.”
