LinkedIn’s annual report on jobs suggests that demand is soaring for blockchain developers…
Just a week or two back, news bubbled up again that Facebook was continuing its interest in blockchain technology, by hiring more staff for its blockchain project (or at least advertising for them). It’s not alone, either. Whilst some companies continue to resist the idea of crypto and digital currencies, blockchain is being more widely taken up.
So much so that in its annual ‘emerging jobs report’, the professional social media and networking site LinkedIn has named ‘blockchain developer’ as the fastest growing employment position over the past 12 months. Across 2018, LinkedIn reports that the position was being recruited for 33 times more than it was in the year before.
To put that level of growth into some kind of context, next down the list on LinkedIn’s chart was Machine Learning Engineer. This was the biggest growing job on Linked in 2017, but in 2018 is grew by a slower 12x. Blockchain, as you can see, is accelerating far, far faster.
LinkedIn reports a surge in blockchain and cryptocurrency, although it does caution that time will tell whether the role of blockchain developer continues to hold and be more of a long-standing trend.
If you’re thinking of giving blockchain development work a try in the next year, LinkedIn reports that the top skills required are “Solidity, Blockchain, Ethereum, Cryptocurrency, Node.js”, whilst IBM, ConsenSys and Chainyard appear to be the most notable American employers in the sector.
