The Winklevoss brothers are still backing Bitcoin, even as others gain ground

Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss continue to chase that Bitcoin ETF, too…

Bitcoin has been, pretty much from the start, the highest profile and highest value cryptocurrency. Which made it surprising when, last week, Ethereum trades produced more volume than it in a 24 hour period. It was a rare enough event to make headline news of its own accord, this story included.

That said, the price of a single Bitcoin still outweighs any other single cryptocurrency, and most are sticking with the currency, in spite of growing predictions that it may be toppled in the years ago. High profile cryptocurrency backers the Winklevoss twins – Tyler and Cameron – have been pushing to get the first Bitcoin exchange traded fund (ETF) approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in America. Thus far, though, they’ve not had a lot of luck with that (although the SEC is set to rule again on proposals in the coming weeks).

However, the Winklevoss twins are not being discouraged.

They took part in an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit recently, and Cameron Winklevoss confirmed the pair’s commitment to Bitcoin. “Bitcoin [BTC] is most likely the winner in the long term”, he wrote. “Bitcoin is certainly the OG crypto! It’s hard to defeat network effects – so in terms of ‘hard money’ (i.e., store of value) Bitcoin is most likely the winner in the long term”.

The pair also confirmed that they’re pressing forwards with their plans for an ETF, in spite of the knockbacks they’ve faced thus far. They wrote that they “are committed as ever to making an ETF a reality”.

We’ll find out over the coming weeks if they’ve got anywhere closer to that goal.
