Twitter makes good on promise, has started suspending crypto scammer accounts

Twitter, a company not known for acting quickly on complaints of abuse on the platform, has begun banning phony accounts that had been taking advantage of willing crypto investors.

The account in question was one posing as Elon Musk, claiming to be giving away free cryptocurrency to users. Reuters reports that this account was suspended as of Wednesday.

Last week, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey had addressed the problem with a brief tweet that simply said: “We are on it,” but this is the first sign that they are, indeed, ‘on it’.

The social media giant previously said in a statement: “We’re aware of this form of manipulation and are proactively implementing a number of signals to prevent these types of accounts from engaging with others in a deceptive manner.”

Though this is a step in the right direction, there is still much work to be done.
