Will John McAfee be consuming his nether regions in 2020?

John McAfee made a notable bet on the future of Bitcoin. Contrary to reports, he hasn’t backed down…

One of the most famous bets in the cryptocurrency market was made by John McAfee. McAfee, a controversial crypto advocate, was adamant once upon a time that Bitcoin’s value will reach the $1m mark by 2020. Furthermore, and there’s no calm or easy way to say this, that if he didn’t, he would eat his own, well, y’know. That thing.

McAfee has stood by his bet, but did appear to be wavering somewhat in a Tweet he shared to his Twitter account. He explained what he’d do if he ultimately lost the bet. Given that this is a wholesome family publication (well, ish), it’s best we don’t explain the full details. Rather that you can find the Tweet in question here.

This was taken in some quarters as McAfee admitting defeat with the bet, and conceding that his prediction was going to fire wide of the mark. But that’s absolutely not the case. He’s since taken to his Twitter account again to clarify that “for the record, I’m not conceding anything”. That’s not stopped a few media outlets from suggesting he had done, but as fast as they report it, he shoots them down.

Bitcoin, of course, has had a rotten month, trading around $3000 down on its position of early November, with no immediate sign of a rebound in sight. That said, McAfee and many other long-term crypto investors are firmly of the view that positions should be held and that this is the market at work. We wait and see. But as things stand, it’s difficult to see McAfee’s wager being won…
