You can now use cryptocurrency to book a space station stay

If you’ve got $80,000 of crypto at hand, then you can now reserve an off-planet trip in 2022…

If all goes to plan, then in 2022, you’ll be able to take a 12-day trip to a space station. Specifically, the Aurora Station, that’s set to start taking space tourists in under five years.

Orion Span, meanwhile, is a company behind what’s being described as “the first-ever luxury space hotel”, and it’s now announced that it’ll be accepting cryptocurrency from those looking to book their place on said station.

“To better reflect the global nature of Aurora Station, we’re putting together these two worldwide resources – space and cryptocurrency – to further serve and improve access for our global clientele”, explained CEO and founder of Orion Span, Frank Bunger.

You’ll need the equivalent of $9.5m per person for the 12-day trip that the company is offering, with a deposit of $80,000 per person. That can now be paid in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash or Litecoin. Deposits are fully refundable.

Over 20 people have thus far reserved their place at the hotel, that can take – once complete – four guest and two crew members at a time.
